History

The Elland Society was founded in 1767 by a group of like-minded evangelical clergy in the Northern Province of the Church of England, among them Henry Venn. Ten years later in 1777 it began to support the training of evangelical ministers for the Province of York, and also supported individuals in overseas mission.
